Well, that depends on the kind of story you’re writing. The length of your tale will dictate the amount of character information you’ll have to create them come to life. For simplicity sake, I have broken my personality sheet down to what I use for each type of writing. Your character sheets may vary.
This brings us to the cause of emotional response itself. In respect to fiction that the most common emotions are likes and dislikes that may turn into their stronger types of love and hate. In real life we love or hate someone because of a few attachment through kinship, friendship, or even through indirect knowledge of the individual. One cannot love or hate a person a person does not understand in any way. Attachment can also be on other living beings, material things, and to imaginary things. We love or hate a narrative or even a notion. For an ordinary person it is impossible to live unattached to things in the world. If a person is able to eliminate attachment, one joins the rank of enlightened souls that are indeed rare. We carry our ability and desire for attachment even into the imaginary world of fiction. We see the characters that we come to know as the narrative progresses, shape our preferences, and react in the same manner as in real life except that we cannot interact with them physically. But we do interact together in our heads and hearts from where the emotions come.
Fiction by its very definition is unreal. When we read a novel we know that the narrative and the characters in it are only a product of imagination of the writer. When we view a movie we are aware that the characters are only acting their parts essentially pretending to be someone other than themselves. Still we are emotionally affected by the turns and twists in the narrative. We laugh with them, weep with them, and also feel indignant towards the bad guys. The lovable hero or heroine may be despicable in actual life and the villain may be a perfect gentleman, but we identify them using all the characters they’re portraying. In essence for this brief period we get hauled to the imaginary world of the author. Strangely enough this happens too with the author at least to a number of them. He or she travels through the same emotions while composing and possibly later as well. Ideally, just as with so many other aspects regarding these details, you will need to pay more attention to some things than others. Nevertheless, the bottom line is how you want to make use of it, and how much of it will effect your situation. We really are just getting started here, and hopefully you will be thrilled about what more is in store. The balance of this read contains much more that will help your particular situation. What you are about to read will significantly enhance your knowledge, and we will go even beyond that point, too.
As you read the science fiction narrative, you will encounter words that you don’t understand. Each time you come across a difficult word, you should look up the dictionary and find out its meaning. If you did not buy a dictionary, you can use the online dictionary to look up the meaning of the phrase. You can discover how to pronounce the new word correctly by playing the sound for the pronunciation in the internet dictionary. The more science fiction tales you see, the broader your vocabulary will become.
Writing fiction is a bit like baking a cake. You need the proper ingredients in the ideal amounts, or it’ll turn out awful. For fiction, you will need the ideal combination of storyline, action, description and character development to bring your story to life to your reader.
Getting back to fiction that the creativity of the author also has to be based on his direct or indirect experiences. In this sense fiction relies on fact and to that extent it represents just another dimension of truth. Here of course we run to the philosophical difficulty of the exact significance of reality. There are two diametrically opposite views – materialistic and spiritualistic. In accordance with the former only things that can be perceived through our senses are real, everything else is unreal. The latter maintains that there’s one ultimate reality from which all that we perceive comes out and everything that is perceived is simply an illusion. We again consider a statement by Einstein: “Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a persistent one.” He was clearly referring to the reality of this phenomenal world. The word illusion can have different connotations but in general it means perceiving something rather different from what it really is. So the presence of this thing is a prerequisite for illusion, it isn’t a mental construction. Imagination is purely a mental phenomenon and has nothing to do with whatever really existent. Therefore the relationship between fiction and reality is completely different from that between reality and illusion. You can always check different fiction stories for reference.
Fiction is an essential part of human life. Man has an inherent need for diversion to get away, even if for a few minutes, from the humdrum of life. Story telling has been one of the earliest methods for accomplishing that and over the ages it has become the varied forms of entertainment we have in today’s world. Entertainment is basically of two types – passive and active. The busy entails physical participation in 1 way or other, while the passive does not. Fiction is basically a passive amusement though the brain has an important part within it. Fiction always involves visualization whether it is covert or overt. The earliest type of overt visualization has been that the enacting of dramas since the civilizations developed. The development of technology brought in its contemporary forms – theater and tv. The key form is inherent to story telling and reading. It’s an inherent feature of the individual (or perhaps any) mind a thought is always accompanied by an image. So as soon as one hears or reads a story the brain visualizes the scene and the figures; this procedure continues throughout the narrative and frequently even after it’s finished.
“I believed we were going to learn about good and evil, human nature, the way to be good. You know. What God is really like. You understand. The Way to live. But we are learning about P plus Q arrows R or S. What’s that, haw? I work all day, and commute for two hours, and what do I get? P and Q arrows R.”
And I’m only talking here of direct references to proper names and titles. Additionally, there are inferences which need to be made and understood in the event the job is to be properly appreciated. For example, a woman complains about her philosophy course:
“Knowledge is limited, imagination isn’t.” Albert Einstein said that although the wording of the next part could have been different. Einstein like any other human being was not infallible. A number of his views he held right until the end turned out to be incorrect within the field of physics. In this particular statement also he seems to have it backwards. Knowledge may be restricted in the case of an individual but in general it’s unlimited even if we believe just logical understanding leaving apart transcendental. Science in particular has demonstrated this at every step in the course of its development. Imagination pertains to a single thoughts and is constrained by several things depending on the circumstances of the individual. A mind can imagine only what relates in some way to matters already stored inside. Someone that has never been outside a distant place in wilderness and has no contact with the world outside cannot imagine what metropolitan cities would be like.
Theme is the most observable in the protagonist’s greatest choice in a story. The easiest way to pinpoint a motif is to put it in question form. Here the question to ask is: what is the protagonist’s biggest emotional decision to resolve the story’s battle?
If the theme envelopes an emotion, its power becomes universal. When the writer creates and dramatizes his theme through an emotion, his saying of this truth leaves an unforgettable impact on the reader. Thus an ambitious author could choose an emotion as the big part of the theme.
