In real life we love or hate someone because of a few attachment through kinship, friendship, or even through indirect knowledge of the individual. One cannot love or hate a person a person does not understand in any way. Attachment can also be on other living beings, material things, and to imaginary things. We love or hate a narrative or even a notion. For an ordinary person it is impossible to live unattached to things in the world. If a person is able to eliminate attachment, one joins the rank of enlightened souls that are indeed rare. We carry our ability and desire for attachment even into the imaginary world of fiction. We see the characters that we come to know as the narrative progresses, shape our preferences, and react in the same manner as in real life except that we cannot interact with them physically. But we do interact together in our heads and hearts from where the emotions come.

Fiction by its very definition is unreal. When we read a novel we know that the narrative and the characters in it are only a product of imagination of the writer. When we view a movie we are aware that the characters are only acting their parts essentially pretending to be someone other than themselves. Still we are emotionally affected by the turns and twists in the narrative. We laugh with them, weep with them, and also feel indignant towards the bad guys. The lovable hero or heroine may be despicable in actual life and the villain may be a perfect gentleman, but we identify them using all the characters they’re portraying. In essence for this brief period we get hauled to the imaginary world of the author. Strangely enough this happens too with the author at least to a number of them. He or she travels through the same emotions while composing and possibly later as well. Ideally, just as with so many other aspects regarding these details, you will need to pay more attention to some things than others. Nevertheless, the bottom line is how you want to make use of it, and how much of it will effect your situation. Fiction is an essential part of human life. Man has an inherent need for diversion to get away, even if for a few minutes, from the humdrum of life. And I’m only talking here of direct references to proper names and titles. Additionally, there are inferences which need to be made and understood in the event the job is to be properly appreciated. For example, a woman complains about her philosophy course:

“Knowledge is limited, imagination isn’t.” Albert Einstein said that although the wording of the next part could have been different. Einstein like any other human being was not infallible. A number of his views he held right until the end turned out to be incorrect within the field of physics. In this particular statement also he seems to have it backwards. Knowledge may be restricted in the case of an individual but in general it’s unlimited even if we believe just logical understanding leaving apart transcendental. Science in particular has demonstrated this at every step in the course of its development. Imagination pertains to a single thoughts and is constrained by several things depending on the circumstances of the individual. A mind can imagine only what relates in some way to matters already stored inside. Someone that has never been outside a distant place in wilderness and has no contact with the world outside cannot imagine what metropolitan cities would be like.

Theme is the most observable in the protagonist’s greatest choice in a story. The easiest way to pinpoint a motif is to put it in question form. Here the question to ask is: what is the protagonist’s biggest emotional decision to resolve the story’s battle?

If the theme envelopes an emotion, its power becomes universal. When the writer creates and dramatizes his theme through an emotion, his saying of this truth leaves an unforgettable impact on the reader. Thus an ambitious author could choose an emotion as the big part of the theme.
